Corthum and her husband Ronald of Riley; one special niece and caretaker, Eula Stephens of Riley; one grandson, Kirk Hale Corthum and his wife Dana of Riley; two granddaughters, Heather Mikesells and her husband Dan of Brazil and Holly Clouse and her husband Bobby of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Haley Jane Corthum and Ashley Renee Bazier of Riley; one brother Charlie Jeffers and his wife Dorothy of Sullivan; two sisters-in-law, Edna Franklin of Florida and Thelma Stephens of Terre Haute; several special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Anthony Hale Jeffers and Darwin Dale Jeffers; one sister, Helen Marie McWhirter, four step-sisters, Mae Elliott, Dorothy Oberhauser, Delma Sickler, and Ora Loudermilk; two special sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Fagg and Eula Fagg; and four brothers-in-law, Bob Franklin, Paul Fagg, Richard Stephens and Virgil Stephens.He graduated from Riley High School in 1942. He joined the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers in 1943. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and marched through Berlin during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and injuries received during the war. He was a retired farmer from Jeffers Farms and was retired from the Operating Engineers Local 841 in 1989 through White Construction. He played a major role in the building of the Lakewood Subdivision in Riley. He also was a co-owner of the J and F Market in Riley for 43 years. He was a member of the Riley Masonic Service Lodge 390, the American Legion Riley Post 328, the Scottish Rite and the Zorah Shrine. He enjoyed fishing, farming and spending time with his family.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at The Mattox-Fox Funeral Home in Riley with the Revs. Aaron Wheaton and Rick Swan officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. conducted by Lodge 390. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley with graveside military services by American Legion Riley Post 328. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
