Fairley was born July 19,1857 at Dunkirk, Hardin County, Ohio, and departed this life October 11,1896 age 39 years, 2 months, and 22 days. She was the daughter of Martin S. and Margaret B. Swaim. She leaves behind to mourn her sad departure her husband and three children, two sons and one daughter, also two brothers, William Swaim, Superintendent of Montgomery, O., Public Schools, and Charles W. Swaim a prominent attorney of Wilmington, O., and a sister Mrs. James L. Fullerton, of Greenfield, Ohio. When she was only two years old her mother died and she was left to the care of her aunt Margery A. Moore, and for five years made her home at her grandfather Moore's, near New Vienna, O. In 1864 her aunt was married to James D. Patton and Hannah went with them to Fall Creek, this county, in which locally she lived until the time of her death. She became greatly attached to her benefactors and looked upon them with as much respect as though they had been her own parents. She endeared herself to the friends and relatives in her new home and became a daughter in all but name. No one could have shown greater appreciation than she for the kindness shown her for these years of dependence. August 22, 1876 she gave her hand to Cyrus w. Fairley. For twenty years she lived the life of a faithful wife, an example of devotion to her husband. During his affliction of nineteen years she was a great comfort and stay to him, lending him such aid as only a devoted wife can render. She was a model mother, and her deeds of love and words of kindly admonition will live in the hearts of her children to guide their footsteps over the slippery places and to lend them to future usefulness, and success. They will miss her greatly, for in a very peculiar way she helped them bear their troubles and overcome their difficulties incident to childhood. But the memory of all these acts in mother's life for them will be precious to their memories for as long as they live. During her great suffering, which lasted for a year previous to her death, she received the most careful attention from her husband and children. Everything that could have been thought of, was tried to cure her, and when it was evident that healing was impossible, they spared nothing to make their loved one just as comfortable as possible, but God had the strongest claim upon her and He took her unto Himself. She was a devoted Christian having united with Friends Church at Fall Creek, July 4th, 1885. In the work of the church and the Women's Christian Temperance Union she took great delight, and none ever more competent in talent and good grace than she. She is gone but not dead. As the stars fell in dawn to appear against the twilight, she has only faded to appear again, then to shine on forever undimmed by years, for where she has gone "the years have no end". Look up, dear husband and children, with hope to see where your loved one has gone, for when you meet again it will be to part no more.
