As presented on one website, it is unlikely that this Hannah was the Hannah Griffin who was born in Chester, NH on 8 Aug 1766, the daughter of Philip Griffin and Ruth Baker. It appears that this Hannah married Amos Davis of Haverhill, Mass. Furthermore, the names in the ancestry of Philip and Ruth do not correspond much at all with the names among the descendants of Hannah (Griffin) Langley. It is more likely that this Hannah was the Hannah Griffin born in E. Kingston, NH on 15 Jan 1768, the daughter of Joseph Griffin and Martha Hillyard. Our Hannah was married in Deerfield, NH in 1785, and Joseph Griffin was one of four male Griffins enumerated on the 1790 census in Deerfield. All the male Griffins in Deerfield appear to be sons or possibly grandsons of Theophilus Griffin (born 1689) who went from Amesbury, Mass., to Kingston, NH, and then to Deerfield. Since Hannah was born about 1766-1768, she would most likely be the daughter of one of the younger sons of Theophilus, such as Joseph, and since we have a birth record that reasonably fits Hannah to Joseph, this is likely the correct choice. Hannah was married in Deerfield on 14 May 1785 to Samuel Langley, the son of James Langley and Charlotte Emerson. She lived with her husband and children in Deerfield until shortly after 1800, when the family moved to Chichester, NH. The family is enumerated on the 1810, 1820, and 1830 censuses for Chichester, and following her husband's death, Hannah appears on the 1840 census in Chichester. She died in 1850, and appears on the federal mortality schedule for that year, giving her age as 83, cause of death as palsy, and her death place as Hooksett, NH.
