Read More	In Memory of Hannah Miller, age 88, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Albert and Jennie (Jungling) Haats on May 23, 1931, at the DeBoer Sisters Maternity Home in Aplington, Iowa. She received her education from a rural country school near her home. On July 6, 1948, Hannah Haats was united in marriage with Merle Miller at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural, Aplington. They made their home and farmed north of Parkersburg. Hannah was a loving wife, Christian mother, grandmother and homemaker. Through the years, Hannah and Merle were foster parents for many children including Mary, who they later adopted into their family. Hannah was a lifelong member of Bethel Reformed Church. She was very active teaching Sunday School for well over 35 years. She played the piano during this time and enjoyed the Women’s Guild as well. Hannah enjoyed and regularly attended Christian Women’s Club in Parkersburg. Hannah was a wonderful cook and baker, and her family very much loved her special homemade pies. She enjoyed crocheting and made an afghan for each grandchild. She enjoyed their yearly family vacations to Sunset Point on Bass Lake, MN and other family destination travels as well. A fun time was always had when Merle took her to The Old Creamery Theatre Company in Amana to see many dinner theaters shows and they loved to laugh at the comedy performances. They enjoyed playing cards with friends on Saturday or Sunday with people from their church, family and neighbors. In later years she enjoyed going out for breakfast and socializing with friends. Hannah always had a special place in her heart for small children and really loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hannah passed away Monday, August 19, 2019, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband Merle Miller on January 29, 2003; parents; one sister, Christina (Lawrence) Winkowitsch; and one brother, Ted (Wilma) Haats. Hannah is survived by one son, Gaylen (Glenna) Miller of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Kathy (Les) Rieken of Parkersburg, and Mary (Joe) Tyler of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren, Alicia (Matt) Cory, Brittanie (Joel) Schiffli, Letrisha Wise, Kara Rieken, Lesa (Brandon) Schipper, Klayton Sprole and Amber Tyler; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Floyd) Junker of Waverly; and three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Aalderks of Aplington, Dee Miller of Aplington, and Gloria Miller of Parkersburg. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the Bethel Reformed Church with burial in the Bethel Cemetery, both rural, Aplington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg. 319-346-1534 Memorials may be directed to the Bethel Reformed Church, Aplington. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is in charge of arrangements.
