MARTIN DECEASED WAS BORN IN ENGLAND IN 1838 PASSED AWAY FEBRUARY 7, IN YELL TOWNSHIP The Funeral Service Was Held Thursday Afternoon From the Incline School House in Charge of the Rev. R. Burton Sheppard. Hannah Batts, daughter of Stephen and Mary Batts, was born in Bristle, England, July 15, 1838, and died Feb. 7, 1916, at the house of her daughter, Mary Ann Love, in Yell township, Boone County, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 21 days. The cause of her death being la grippe and old age. She was united in marriage in England to George Tilley and to this union were born six children: Mary Okley, of Ogden, Iowa; Elizabeth Coleman, of Fraser, Iowa; C.W. Tilley, of Ogden, Iowa; James Tilley, of Ogden, Iowa; Joseph Tilley of Yell township, and John Tilley of Wyoming. In 1874 she was united in marriage to Charles Martin and to this union were born three children: Fred Martin, George Martin, and Mary Ann Love, all of Yell township. She came to America in 1871 and has since resided in Logansport and Incline. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William, and by two sisters, Caroline and Charlotte. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Charles Martin, and nine children, who are mentioned above, and who were all at her bedside at the time of her death, except C.W. Tilley of Ogden, Iowa. She also leaves sixty-four grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Incline school house. The Rev. R. Burton Sheppard had charge. Miss Olive Flockhart and Mrs. Harry Tryon sang appropriate hymns. The sympathy of many friends is extended to the surviving family in their great sorrow.
