Read More	n Aged Mother Passes A Well Known Former Resident Dies at Home of Her Daughter, Estherville Mrs. Hannah Waddell, who since the death of her husband in 1913 made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Hauser near Keystone and was well and favorably known to many in this community, died at the home of her daughter, at Estherville last Wednesday, following a stroke of paralysis which she suffered on January 10th of this year. The remains were shipped to Vinton and from there were taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. Kraft at Van Horne. Funeral services were held from the Evangelical church at Van Horne Saturday afternoon in charge of the Rev. C.D. Wendell. Interment was made in Prairie cemetery. Hannah Shephard was born near Bakerstown, Penn., February 25, 1836, where she grew to womanhood, and died May 23, 1923, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 28 days. In 1859 she was united in marriage to Samuel Waddell, and I 1869 they came with their family to Benton county, settling south of the present site of Van Horne, and is the last of the old pioneers of that community to pass on. At the age of 16 years she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, continuing to live an exemplary Christian life for 71 years. Mrs. Waddell was the last of her family of six, three brothers and two sisters to pass away. She leaves six daughters to mourn her loss, Mrs. Katherine Miller and Mrs. Nancy Cornelius of Estherville, Mrs. Mary Yoch of Superior, Mrs. Hannah Schmidt of Rock Creek, Minn., Mrs. Angenette Hauser of Vinton and Mrs. Lena Kraft of Van Horne. She also leaves 31 grand children and 29 great grandchildren, besides a large circle of very close friends. – Van Horne News (Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 6, 1923)
