Vanderford, one of the most popular women of Troy Township departed this life Friday afternoon at three o'clock, after patiently suffering for three long months, with a complication of diseases, the end coming peacefully and she merely slept away. The deceased was born in Whitley County May 6, 1836, she being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Uriah Tinkham who preceded her to the great beyond several years ago. She was raised on a farm in Troy township, and attended the public schools until she had completed her course, and then took up the task of assisting her aged parents in the work of the farm. She was united in marriage to her bereft husband on March 25,1865 and to this union there were born six children, on preceding her in death he being Lewis, and the five surviving are Arthur Vanderford, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Leslie, Benjamin, and Andrew at home, and Mrs. Cora Cordill, of Troy Township, The deceased became associated with the Methodist church when but a mere girl and she was a devoted Christian and earnest church worker, and her many kind acts and deeds will be sadly missed by those who came in constant touch with her. It is said of Mrs. Vanderford, that to know her was to love her, and her untimely death has cast a gloom over the entire community. Besides the above named relatives she leaves three brothers namely, Lewis Tinkham, of Traverse City, Michigan; Marion Tinkham of Lima, Ohio; and Eli Tinkham of Panama; also on sister Mrs. Harriett Haines, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The funeral services will be conducted Sunday morning at eleven o'clock at the Troy Methodist church, the Rev. Wright of Larwill officiating and interment will be made in the Adams Cemetery.
