Description	:	Hans George was born 28 Sep 1835 on the Årbakka farm in the Onarheim parish of the Tysnes clerical district, Hordaland, Norway. He was baptized Hans Jørgensen 18 Oct 1835 and confirmed 28 Sep 1851 in the same parish. His parents were Jørgen Olson Hovland (ca. 1801-1888) and Anna Hansdatter Årbakka (1817-1850). Hans had four sisters and one brother whose births are recorded in the parish register: Christi (b. 26 Jan 1838), Jorinda (b. 20 Dec 1841), Ole (b. 2 Jul 1844), Maritha Johanne (b. 7 Mar 1847) and Britanna (b. 21 Apr 1850). He was baptized Hans Jørgensen 18 Oct 1835 and confirmed 28 Sep 1851 in the same parish. His parents were Jørgen Olson Hovland (ca. 1801-1888) and Anna Hansdatter Årbakka (1817-1850). Hans had four sisters and one brother whose births are recorded in the parish register: Christi (b. 26 Jan 1838), Jorinda (b. 20 Dec 1841), Ole (b. 2 Jul 1844), Maritha Johanne (b. 7 Mar 1847) and Britanna (b. 21 Apr 1850). In 1857 the parish register recorded his departure from the parish to North America. He settled for a time in Grundy County, Illinois. On 15 Apr 1859 he married Anna Olsdatter Helvik. Their marriage was recorded in the parish register of the Lutheran parish at Lisbon, Kendall County, Illinois. Anna Olsdatter was born 12 Feb 1837 on the Helvik farm in the Husnes parish of the Kvinnherad clerical district, Hordaland, Norway. She was baptized 19 Feb 1837 and confirmed 22 Nov 1851 in the Husnes parish church. She was the daughter of Olav Johannesson Myklebust (1796-1855) and Kari Olsdatter Røssland (1799-1856). The Kvinnherad parish register also recorded the births of Anna's six brothers and two sisters: Ole, b. 20 Jan 1823, d. unknown, departed parish to North America 9 Apr 1857, Johannes, b. 24 Jul 1824, d. 14 Nov 1824 on the Helvik farm, Johannes, b. 27 Aug 1825, d. 19 Jun 1887 in Stavanger, Norway, John, b. 11 Jun 1827, d. 26 Dec 1895 in Olive township, Clinton County, Iowa, Knud, b. 17 Mar 1829, d. 30 May 1904 in Story County, Iowa, Torgeir, b. 15 Aug 1831, d. 13 Feb 1844 on the Helvik farm, Britha [Mrs. Even Olson] b. 29 Dec 1833, d. 10 Mar 1912 in Olive township, Clinton County, Iowa, Mari, b. 18 Sep 1839, d. 11 Oct 1846 on the Helvik farm. The parish register dated the departure of the family* from the parish to North America 31 Mar 1856. Anna's mother died shortly after the family's arrival in Kendall County.
