Read More	Transcribed from: Miller Funeral Home- 4/2008 Harlan F. Bowling, 77, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Harlan was born December 11, 1930 to Thomas and Bertha Bowling in Farmer, South Dakota, rural Hanson County. He was the 5th of 6 children in the family, growing up with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. For the first five years of school, he attended St. Mary's School in Epiphany, SD. In 1945, he attended St. Peters School in Farmer, SD. He graduated from Farmer High School in 1949. After graduation, he attended trade school in Omaha, NE for a year and a half. Harlan later received his First Class Radio License. In May of 1951, he began work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mitchell, SD. In January of 1952, he was drafted into military service. He attended basic training camp in Gorden, GA, then proceeded into ten months of Signal Training Corp in Fort Mammoth, NJ. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan for three months then attended school in Korea in December of 1953. He received his honorable discharge from the Army in January of 1954. Upon his return from the military, Harlan resumed his job with the Telephone Company. In 1954, he was married to Lucille Arens. The couple had five children; eleven grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He retired from US West Telephone Company in 1989 after 38 years of service. He continued to reside in Sioux Falls until the time of his death. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lucille, of Sioux Falls, SD; his children, Thomas Bowling, Timothy Bowling, Julie (Tom) Weeks, Joan Hudson, and Jill Snedeker; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Therese Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Farmer, SD. A scripture service will begin at 7:00 pm Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location. Visitation for the public will begin at 3:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. -------------------------
