Description	:	Harlan "Hod" Dale Whitney, 73, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tim Tostengard officiating. Burial will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Harlan was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Bluffton Township, in the home of his parents, Brayton Charles and Inez Grace (Sullivan) Whitney. He attended Bluffton country school through the 8th grade, then graduated from Canton (Minn.) High School in 1945. Harlan was married to Gloria Joan Wickett July 3, 1946, at the Canton (Minn.) Presbyterian Church. He farmed on the home farm near Burr Oak, starting with his father in 1946 until the mid-1980's. Then they sold the farm and moved to Decorah in 1990. Harlan also sold Cargill feed and seed for a number of years. He was a school bus driver for North Winneshiek School for 14 years. After moving to Decorah, he had part-time jobs at Dahly Motors as a Salesman, at Camcar Textron and at Wal-Mart as a greeter. Harlan belonged to the Burr Oak Lutheran Church for many years. He was active in choir, a Luther League sponsor, and was on the Church Council as well as a past president of it. He joined Decorah Lutheran Church when he moved to Decorah. He enjoyed being with his wife and family, as well as other people. He also liked fishing and boating, and watching all types of sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. In his younger years, Harlan enjoyed playing softball. When he quit playing, he managed the Farm Service team. Survivors include his wife, Gloria; two daughters and three grandchildren.
