Obituary: North Manchester News Journal Oct 24, 1918; "Harlin Cowgill, one of the older residents of this city, died at the soldier's home at Marion Tuesday night. He had been in failing health for some time, and was taken to Marion about two weeks ago, it being possible to give him better treatment there. Tuesday it was known that his condition was serious, and Jacob Swihart and wife took Mrs. Cowgill over to see him, being accompanied by Harley Sincroft and wife. Later in the evening he passed away. The body was brought to the Bender undertaking establishment last night and will be kept there until Friday, when the funeral, which will be private, will be held at his late residence on West Fourth street. It will be conducted by Rev. C.A. Bame and the burial will be in Oaklawn. Mr. Cowgill was about 69 years of age, and was the son of James Cowgill, being born in this township and spending all his life here. He was married to Jane Weekly, who survives him. During the civil war he served as a soldier, and for many years was an employe of the Wabash railroad, later working at various factories about town until his health became such that he could no longer work. He was a member of the First Brethren church. "
