Read More	Harlan Rayne Amundson was born Nov. 30, 1934, the son of Harry and Ruth (Peterson) Amundson. He was born in Decorah and grew up on the family farm in Winneshiek County. He was baptized into the Christian faith Dec. 23, 1934 at Madison Lutheran Church. Harlan Amundson confirmed his faith May 22, 1949 at Lincoln Lutheran Church. He was educated in the rural schools of Winneshiek County and graduated from Ridgeway High School in the class of 1953. He farmed much of his life in Winneshiek County, and began farming with his parents. Then, he served in the United States Army from 1955-1957, where he was an instructor in the assembly of Nike missiles. Following the Army, he returned to farming, which he shared with his wife and children. February 2, 1958, Harlan Amundson was united in marriage with Lorraine Haubenreiser in Westmont, Ill. To this marriage, three children were born: Keith, Neal and Lynn. They were later divorced. Harlan Amundson became a member of Orleans Lutheran Church Dec. 20, 1953. He re-mained a member of Orleans the rest of his life. He was married to Lois Stevens Oct. 9, 1981 in Paris, Texas. Harlan Amundson continued to farm until ill health caused him to change course. He was affiliated with Erickson Prochaska Real Estate in Cresco for several years in the early 1980s and then worked for the United States Postal Service in Wolfe City, Texas for 10 years before retire-ment in 1997. Since then, he and his wife had spent the summer months on the farm in Iowa and, seeking a warmer climate, the winter months at their home near Pecan Gap, Texas. They enjoyed trips together to places like England and Scotland, some other European countries, Bangkok, Thailand as well as several cruises and destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean Harlan Amundson was a patient, soft-spoken, gentle person who always treated others with kindness and tolerance. His great-est delight was finding an old, rusty tractor or engine that didn't run and making it look good and operable again. He enjoyed his years of retirement with many years spent in the shop, both in Iowa and in Texas. After being diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease in 1974, he supported the foundation that is searching for a cure for this inherited disease. He had expressed the wish that, rather than flowers at his funeral, a gift be given to that foundation. Harlan Rayne Amundson was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lorraine and a stepson, Wayne Stevens.
