Description	:	Funeral services for Harley E. Whittington, 74, of Hawarden, were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Herbert Young officiating. Mrs. Hal Shoemaker was the organist and Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., soloist sang "Going Home" and "How Great Thou Art." Active casket bearers were Carroll Hamilton, Wayne Scott, Lloyd McQuire, Ed Vande Hoef, George Lang, and Harry Hodoway. Honorary casket bearers were Emil Swanson, C.B. Thompson, George Schiefen, C.C. Military graveside services were conducted by Two Oaks Post 254 of the American Legion in Hawarden. Mr. Whittington died Saturday, February 21, in Riverside, California. He was born November 14, 1895, near Hudson and moved to the farm home north of Hawarden in 1889. On January 25, 1922, he married Grace Merey at Hawarden. She preceded him in death in 1960. He was a 50-year member of the Two Oaks Post 254 of the American Legion and a member of the Last Man's Club of the Legion. He was also a member of the V.F.W., Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and Woodman of the World. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Neva) O'Leary of Iowa City, Mrs. Alton (Edith) Pryer of Riverside, California; two sons, William of Hawarden and Richard of Redwood City, California; a nephew, Julius Merey of Preston, Minnesota, who was reared in the Whittington home; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Guy Hodgson of Hawarden.
