The son of Frank and Minnie Lehman Jarvis, he was born December 3, 1916, in Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1934. Read More	IN MEMORY OF Harley Forest Jarvis Harley Forest Jarvis, 75, of Griswold died Saturday, April 4, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The son of Frank and Minnie Lehman Jarvis, he was born December 3, 1916, in Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1934. During World War II, he served 52 months with the Army’s Timberwolf Division in the European Theater and was a recipient of the Croix de Guerre Medal with a Bronze Star from the French government. He was married to Dorothy May Steffen at Cumberland January 9, 1948, and was employed by C.P. Meredith Hardware for 16 years. He then sold insurance for Life Investors, was employed with the Post Office for 10 years and later with Thornton Moving. He retired at the age of 73. Mr. Jarvis was a member of the Central Church of Christ, American Legion Post 508 of Griswold and the Atlantic Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been hospitalized for the last three months. Surviving are his wife; a son, Richard Jarvis of Des Moines and his fiancé, JoAnne Kennebeck; a daughter, Lynn McIntosh of Greenfield and her husband Richard; two grandchildren, Shari and Erick McIntosh of Greenfield. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen DeVore of Cumberland and her husband, Earl; Leona Groves of Massena and her husband, Robert; a sister-in-law, Leota Jarvis of Atlantic; a niece, Alberta Millikan of Atlantic, who lived with his parents, and her husband, Dick; a brother-in-law, Harold Steffen of Cumberland and his wife Ruth; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elwin and Herbert; three sisters, Zeta Florshinger, Ruby Cheff and Hazel Williams. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cumberland Greenwood Cemetery, with Don Gordon officiating. Military services will be by American Legion Post 508. In charge of flowers will be Jean Jennings, Lucille Bergstrom and Thelma Justice. Honorary bearers will be Robert Rossie; Robert and Richard Groves; Brian and Rodney DeVore; David, Larry and Dale Steffen; Jim Hildebrand; and Dick Millikan. Wagler Funeral Home of Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
