Description	:	Harlietta I. Helland passed away suddenly on Friday, March 7th, 2014, at the age of 70. She was a long-time Marshalltown resident. Memorial services at Anderson Funeral Home. Harlietta was born in Centerville, Iowa, on April 15th, 1943, to Marvin H. Wood and Geneva I. Powell. She moved with her family to Gilman in 1944, where she graduated from high school. She attended the Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) for two years, finishing her degree in psychology later at Buena Vista College. She moved to Marshalltown where she married Raymond L. Helland on August, 8th, 1964. Harlietta worked most of her life in the service of others - to her family, friends, and the public. She worked for 38 years in service to the people of the State of Iowa at the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Department of Human Services. She served as President of the Iowa Rehabilitation Association in 2009. She was also involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1973. She was a member of the Marshalltown Morning Optimist Club since 1987, serving in every leadership position in the club on several occasions and organizing the first Citizen of the Year Roast and many subsequent events. Most recently she was a founding member of 100 Women Who Care Marshalltown, helping fund a variety of service projects since 2012. She is survived by her mother Geneva Robinson; husband, Ray; two sons Brad Helland (Irina) of Bellevue, WA; Brian Helland (Nancy) of West Des Moines; grandchildren; and brother Mike Wood (Elaine) of Shellsburg.
