Description	:	Harold Albertus Bolks, 94, of Hull died Wednesday, December 7, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A memorial service was Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the original sanctuary of the American Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Steven Bierly officiating. Interment was at Hope Cemetery in Hull. Read More	Harold Albertus Bolks, 94, of Hull died Wednesday, December 7, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A memorial service was Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the original sanctuary of the American Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Steven Bierly officiating. Interment was at Hope Cemetery in Hull. Bolks was born November 9, 1911, in Hamilton, Michigan, the son of John Bliss and Ruth (Weaver) Bolks. He was raised on a farm near Hull. He attended country school for eight years and then completed two years at the Hull High School. On June 28, 1932, he married Augusta Emma De Boer in Doon. They farmed near Hull until 1936, when they moved into town. He then operated Bolks Meats and Lockers in Hull. Later, he was an automobile mechanic and became a partner in the Ford dealership in Hull. In more recent years, he was a salesman at D & S Chevrolet in Hull. He was a member of the American Reformed Church. He was a faithful volunteer at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, where he developed warm and caring relationships with many of the residents. He enjoyed repairing clocks and watches, as well as many small appliances. Survivors include his wife of more than 73 years; two sons and their wives, Harvey and Annabel Bolks of Rock Valley and Lauren and Hester Bolks of Gilbert, Arizona; two daughters, Evelyn Jones of Cedar Rapids and Marlys and her husband Willard Rowenhorst of Orange City; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, LaVonne Kroese of Sheldon; a brother, Alfred Bolks of Sioux Center; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd Bolks; and four sisters, Hazel De Boer, Esther Kooiker, Irma Zwiep-Derr and Viola Gurkink. Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley. Sioux Center News 2005-12-14.
