Silver The many relatives and friends of Hemford, learned with feelings of deep sorrow the tragic death of Harold Silver, which occurred at 12 o'clock on Saturday evening, December 14, at the Digby Hospital, being admitted there after being fatally injured when he was thrown from a truck near Weymouth, while employed there as a lumberman. He was 31 years of age and was very popular with the younger set of the community. He was a member of the United Church and at one time was an active member of Primrose Lodge, No 151, I.O.O.F. Following his marriage to Miss Ruth Veinot, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Veinot, Lake Pleasant, he built a home here and resided here until the outbreak of war when he and his wife moved to Dartmouth, where he was employed as a freight handler. His chief interests were centred in his home, which he gave of his best. Surviving are his wife , his parents and six sisters, (Grace) Mrs. William Barkhouse, New Germany; Ivy, Nineveh; Jessie (Mrs. Edward Turner) Simpson's Corner; Jean of Dartmouth; (Laverta ) Mrs. Raymond Silver, Hemford; (Evora) Mrs. Jas. Pico, Flin Flon, Manitoba. The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, with a short service at the home of his parents, followed by a service at the church, when a comforting message was given by his pastor, Rev. S.G. MacQueen, of the United Church, using as his text Psalm 46:1. Hymns sung were all favourites of the deceased, "In The Garden," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Sweet Peace, the Gift of God's Lone." Pall-bearers were Claude, Oscar, and Roscoe Wile, Keith Mailman, Bazil Wagner, and Howard Silver. The body was laid to rest in his family lot, beside his infant daughter who predeceased him nine years ago. (written on obituary - 1946) Rosemary Rafuse
