The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8, 2011, between 3:00 and 7:30 pm in the gathering space at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be designated to St. Joseph Catholic School, 417 6th Avenue, DeWitt, Iowa, 52742, or the Knights of Columbus Hennessey Council, 235 11th Avenue, DeWitt, Iowa, 52742 Harold was born January 15, 1918, in rural Baldwin, Iowa, to Harry B. and Margaret (Curtis) Kedley. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1935. Harold entered the U.S. Army in January of 1942. He served with the Military Police and as a Surgical Technician, Grade 3, with the 87th Field Hospital Unit in the South Pacific during World War II which included service in the Battle of Okinawa. Throughout his military service he served alongside his brother, Loras. After leaving the military, Harold was employed by Security First National Bank in Long Beach, California. On May 20, 1943, he married Margaret Mary Reed, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Long Beach. In the fall of 1947, he and Margaret returned to DeWitt, where they engaged in farming and raised their six children. Harold was a longtime and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, serving on the Parish Board and School Board. He was also member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd and 4th Degree and had served as Grand Knight. Harold was an active board member for the DeWitt United Manor and DeWitt Equity Cooperative. He was also an American Legion member. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Loras Kedley, his sister, Lucille Kedley Gindorff and an infant daughter, Elizabeth Mary Kedley. Above all Harold was a family man. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 68 years, his brothers, Dorrance (Teresa) of DeWitt, and Leo of Davenport; his children, Jim (Laurel) of DeWitt, Bill (Karen) of Rochester, New York, Jerry (Nancy) of Clinton, Iowa, Trish LaLonde of Rochester, Celine (Brad Richter) of Fresno, California and Joan (Joe) Motsinger of Boulder, Colorado. They have 13 grandchildren, Chad (Charlette) Kedley of Phoenix, Arizona, Mike, Terry (Gretel) and Leah Kedley, Meera (Michael) Sherwin and Kerrie Kedley all of Rochester, Julie LaLonde of Auburn, New York, A. J. LaLonde of Springfield, Massachusetts, and Kelly LaLonde of Rochester, Jim Kedley of DeWitt; and Madeline, Mackenzie and Matthew Motsinger all of Boulder; 4 great-grandchildren, Payton Kedley of Phoenix, and Annabelle, Billy and Myles Kedley all of Rochester; numerous nieces and nephews.
