He was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Defiance County's Delaware Township, the son of Charles and Catherine (Moninger) Brown. In 1942, he married Helen Stevens, who survives. He was a farmer and worked at Zeller's for more than 35 years as a tool grinder. He was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Defiance County's Delaware Township, the son of Charles and Catherine (Moninger) Brown. In 1942, he married Helen Stevens, who survives. He was a farmer and worked at Zeller's for more than 35 years as a tool grinder. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Corporal, serving in the European-African Middle Eastern Theater as an air craft electrical mechanic in World War II. He was also a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Also surviving are a son, Harold, Defiance; and a daughter, Georgena (Gregg) Nanson, Lima. Preceding him in death were a brother, Merl; and two sisters, Gladys Grawbarger and one in infancy. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ in Holgate with Rev. Jane Hillman officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, where members of Defiance VFW Post 3360 will accord military honors. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and after 12 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Preferred memorials are to St. John's United Church of Christ, St. Rita's Medical Center Palliative Care Center in Lima, or Friends of Feline Rescue Center, Defiance.
