Description	:	Harold Christianson, 93 of Volga, SD died Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at his home in Volga. He was born in Volga, SD on October 23, 1928 to Albert and Mathilda (Knutson) Christianson. He graduated from Volga High School in 1946 where he participated in football and basketball. He joined the Army in 1946 and was stationed in occupied Japan until December of 1947. Read More	Harold Christianson, 93 of Volga, SD died Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at his home in Volga. He was born in Volga, SD on October 23, 1928 to Albert and Mathilda (Knutson) Christianson. He graduated from Volga High School in 1946 where he participated in football and basketball. He joined the Army in 1946 and was stationed in occupied Japan until December of 1947. He married his beloved wife, Geraldine (Ellefson) in 1949 and graduated from South Dakota State College in 1951. While attending college he worked as a postal clerk in Volga under the supervision of the postmaster, his father Albert. After graduation he continued working for the postal service in Volga. In August of 1964 he became the Volga postmaster. In 1966 he became a federal Postal Service Officer, domiciled in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1967 the family moved to Robbinsdale, Minnesota and resided there until 1971 when he was transferred to Fargo, North Dakota where he retired in 1981. He and Geri moved to Brookings in 1981 and then to their home in Volga in 1986. He worked as a supervisor of student housing at SDSU from 1985-1986 and for his brother-in-law at Al's Plumbing and Heating from 1986-1995. He served in the National Guard from 1951-1966. He was a member of the American Legion, the Forty and Eight, and the VFW. He served as the American Legion commander for four years, Chef de Gare for four years, and VFW commander for three years. He has been a member of the Brookings County Museum board since 2003, in which he served as the president for several years. He served on the Volga Boy Scouts of American committee and was Scoutmaster for three years. He coached the American Legion baseball team for three years, served as the Volga PTA president in the 1950's, and taught the gun safety course to youth in Volga during the 1960's.
