Description	:	Harold Dale Whipple, 85, passed-away peacefully on Sunday February 20, 2011 with sons Aaron Sr. his wife, Kristine and David Sr. and his wife Pauline and grandson Alex at his side. Harold was born April 25, 1925 in Chasley, North Dakota to Harvey and Pauline (Rodacker) Whipple. He met his wife of 62 years, Lila Hoff, while walking down a country road in Chasley. Read More	Harold Dale Whipple, 85, passed-away peacefully on Sunday February 20, 2011 with sons Aaron Sr. his wife, Kristine and David Sr. and his wife Pauline and grandson Alex at his side. Harold was born April 25, 1925 in Chasley, North Dakota to Harvey and Pauline (Rodacker) Whipple. He met his wife of 62 years, Lila Hoff, while walking down a country road in Chasley. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2010. At age 17, Harold joined the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII as a gunner aboard the USS Aaron Ward. He was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. While Harold was deployed, he was comforted and kept up to date on home news from his (then) loving girlfriend, Lila who wrote him many letters, letters which he kept and cherished all his life. After the war, he came home and married Lila, settled in Chesley and had eight children. Harold moved his family to Elma in 1958 but enjoyed returning one to two times per year to visit. Harold collected antiques, especially butter churns and old motors, most of which came from North Dakota. He would work on them and restore them until they were like new. Harold loved playing Pinochle and did every weekend for years with family members. In addition to his parents and beloved wife Lila, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne, Cecil, Ray, Dayton and Leo and his sister, Frances Weld. He is survived by his sister, Geraldine (Harold) Ralkey, children, Marilyn Keel, McCleary, Joan, Deland (Pam), Aaron (Kristine), Kenny, Cleo, David (Pauline) and Janet (Bill) Krack of Elma. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
