Mr. Barber was born in Union, June 29, 1935, a son of the late Glenn David and Rachel Sumner Barber. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended Cecil's Business College in Spartanburg. Mr. Barber was born in Union, June 29, 1935, a son of the late Glenn David and Rachel Sumner Barber. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended Cecil's Business College in Spartanburg. Mr. Barber was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the U. S. Navy. He was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and attended Westside Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter: Penny Barber Thompson of Jonesville; two sons: Harold Ray Barber and Charles David Barber both of Charleston; three sisters: Mrs. Robert (Linda) Gregory, Mrs. Paul (Sandra) Davis and Mrs. Maurice (Mary) Hyder all of Union; two brothers: Herbert Lee Barber and Charles Wayne Barber both of Union; two grandsons: Harold Ray "Bit" Barber, Jr. of Union and Steve Dexter Thompson, Jr. of Jonesville; two granddaughters: Sierra Danielle Thompson of Jonesville and Halona Ashby Barber of Charleston. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by Rev. Jerry Lawson and Rev. Angelia Price. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Ave. Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home, 121 City View Circle, Union, SC 29379. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
