Harold "Charlie" Dean Blome was born on May 13, 1931, to Clarence and Jennie (Ott) Blome near Hubbard, in Grant Township, Hardin County, Iowa. Read More	Harold "Charlie" Blome, age 89, of Hubbard, IA, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Harold "Charlie" Dean Blome was born on May 13, 1931, to Clarence and Jennie (Ott) Blome near Hubbard, in Grant Township, Hardin County, Iowa. He was an active lifetime member of Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard where he served on the council. Harold met Erma Ritland at the Triple R Roller Rink and they were married on July 18, 1953. Harold enjoyed many evenings dancing with Erma, the love of his life. He started farming the homestead farm south of Hubbard in 1954, where he and Erma raised their four children. He purchased the Hub Drive Inn which he, Erma and his four children ran for 10 summers. Harold served in the US Marine Corps and was an active legion member. He participated in the color guard for many years. Harold enjoyed camping and traveling with family. There were many cherished moments around the campfire with his four children and grandchildren. He was able to travel to many destinations throughout the world with Erma, family and friends including a memorable Christmas family cruise to Cozumel. Harold enjoyed playing golf and achieved every golfer's dream of a hole-in-one. He enjoyed playing cards as a couple with Erma and with his friends uptown. Harold loved his community and was surprised and honored when he and Erma were selected Grand Marshalls for the 2015 Hubbard Parade. His main hobby was woodworking where his love for his grandchildren led to numerous wooden creations which he enjoyed presenting to them as gifts. Other activities included making custom latch hook rugs, doing puzzles, driving charter buses, driving livestock trucks and helping out local businesses with day deliveries. He was also active as a Conklin distributer, Northrup King seed dealer and a licensed Real Estate Broker. Harold passed away on Friday April 9, 2021, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Erma Blome, his children Dallas (Peggy) Blome of Fenton, MO, Connie (Dr. Randy) Madden of Alden, IA, Sherry (Dean) Adams of Glenville, MN and James Blome of D'Hanis, TX; 10 grandchildren Lee (Kay) Madden, Brent (Klaire) Madden, Dr. Jill Madden, Laura (Wes) Schieber, Taylor (Heather) Blome, Zach (Stephanie) Adams, Josh Adams, Michael (Ally) Adams, Jennifer (Dr. Andrew) Cibulas and Madalyn Blome; 11 great-grandchildren Dylan, Camren and Lane Madden; Mason, Paige and Reed Schieber; Bennett and Marin Blome; Callan and Anna Madden, and Kirk Adams; sisters-in-law Jerris Blome Hodnefield and Opal Nelson; brothers-in-law Floyd (Doris) Ritland and Roy (Marjorie) Ritland: along with many other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brother Martin Blome, sisters and brothers in-law Arleen (Jerry) Hindman and Doris (Irvin) Ritland; sister in-law and brother in-law Jane and Glen Frohwein and brother in-law Raymond Nelson. Masks and social distancing are required during the church service.
