Kerby was born July 2, 1931, at Grinnell, Iowa, to Ogle Leon "Lee" and Nellie Mae Rucker Kerby. He grew up in southern Iowa and graduated from Sully, Iowa High School in 1948. Following graduation, he attended Iowa State University and became employed by the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. From January 1952 until February 1954, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He married Barbara Lee on July 2, 1952, at Centerville, Iowa. The couple farmed in northern Missouri until 1959. He had his own decorating business in Des Moines from 1960-68. The family moved to Nebraska where he worked in sales for Arbies Feed. The couple settled in Uehling in 1985 and he worked for two men painting out of Oakland retiring in 2000. He was an active member of Uehling Congregational Church, American Legion Post 196, Hooper Veterans of Foreign Wars, 13-year member of AA, and was a retired volunteer fireman. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Uehling; a son, John (and wife, Deborah) Kerby of Wisner; three daughters, Sheryl (and husband, Don) Hill of Pleasantville, Iowa, Kayla (and husband, Randy) Siebrandt and Judy (and husband, Kurt) Hansen, both of West Point; a brother, Don (and wife, Ruth) Kerby of Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law, Madge (and husband, Don) Fels of Norwalk, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Bill (and wife, Charlene) Lee of Holbrooke, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant brother. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Uehling Congregational Church with Don Hill officiating. Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m. with family present from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Burial with military honors will be at the Baptist Cemetery.
