Cozart, 83, of Chelan, passed away at his home on Aug. 7, 1998. He was born Jan. 6, 1915, at Entiat, the son of Neal and Jane (Goodwin) Cozart. He attended schools there and was graduated from Entiat High School in 1933. He then attended business college in Wenatchee. On Nov. 24, 1937, he was married to Maymie Wise of Manson, at Wenatchee. They resided at Entiat until 1939, when they moved to Chelan. Harold began work at Chelan Station as an accountant, first with the Chelan Valley Warehouse Co., and then with the Beebe Orchard Co. He returned to the former firm after the Chelan-Manson Co-op was formed. In 1946, he became manager at age 31, one of the youngest in the business. The co-op later became Blue Chelan in 1970. He continued managing Blue Chelan for 37 years until his retirement in 1983. His record in guiding and building Blue Chelan into a successful packing and marketing organization is well-known is the area. In 1981, he was elected to the Washington State Apple Commission board of directors, where he served for nine years. He was elected chairman in 1984. He received the Golden Apple Award from the Washington State Apple Commission in 1990. Harold was a member of the Tree Top board of directors from 1983 to 1985. In his many years in the fruit industry, Cozart also served on committees of the Wenatchee Valley Traffic Association, the Washington State Horticultural Association, and was a long-term member of Northwest Wholesale Inc.'s board of directors. He served three years as president. In 1988, he was honored as Outstanding Apple Citizen by the board of trustees of the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival. Harold's involvement in the community has included a 50-year membership in the Lake Chelan Lions Club. In 1981, he was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member and past president of Lake Chelan Rustlers. In 1993, Harold was honored as grand marshal of the Lake Chelan Rodeo. In 1993, he was approached to serve as general chairman for the Lake Chelan Community Hospital Foundation "Commitment to Caring" campaign. Through the efforts of the community, it was very successful. On July 30, 1998, Harold was recognized as a Foundation Board Member Emeritus. Not only did Harold work hard, he played hard and enjoyed the companionship of many good friends. He was a member of the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, a renowned fisherman and a "cowboy" at heart. One of his early hobbies was sculpting his favorite horses in clay. In 1993, he was approached to serve as general chairman for the Lake Chelan Community Hospital Foundation "Commitment to Caring" campaign. Through the efforts of the community, it was very successful. On July 30, 1998, Harold was recognized as a Foundation Board Member Emeritus. He is survived by his wife, Maymie, of the home; two daughters, Janice McClendon of Leavenworth, and Carolyn Branom and her husband Steve of Issaquah; grandson, Mark McClendon of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughters, Seri McClendon of Los Angeles, Calif., Stacey Branom of Issaquah, and Sara Chance of Maple Valley. Services are under direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
