Read More	BRIGHTON, COLO - Harold Eugene Baker, 87, formerly of Trenton, died Tuesday (July 15, 2008) at Brighton Care Center in Brighton, Colo. He was born Jan. 31, 1923, on his family's farm in Hitchcock County north of Trenton, the son of Charles W. and Irma (Evans) Baker. He attended country school near his home before attending and graduating from Stratton High School. After high school, he worked on the farm for several years. He married Margaret L. Taul, on June 11, 1944, at McCook. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force later that year, and served his country during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After receiving his honorable discharge, they moved to the homestead his grandfather, George Baker built southwest of Palisade. The original sod house was remodeled and became their home for many years. He attended agriculture classes for several years as part of the G.I. Bill. In addition to farming and raising Charolais cattle, he built terraces for many years. He also served his community in many ways and was a member of the Methodist Church, as well as a longtime member of the ASCS and NRD Boards. He was a 4-H Leader for many years, served on the Hester Home Board, the Methodist Church Boards in both Stratton and Trenton, and was a lifelong member of the American Legion. In addition to raising his own sons, he and his wife, took in two nieces and a nephew and raised them to adulthood. He retired in 2000 after a lifelong career of farming. They moved to Brighton in 2003 where they lived near their son, Joe and his family. After his wife died in 2005, he remained in Brighton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irma Baker; his wife, Margaret L. Baker; an infant son, James Dale Baker; and two sisters, Alice Baker and Alta Marvin. Survivors include his sons, Gene Baker and wife, Barbara of McCook, Joe Baker and wife, Sharlene of Brighton, Colo., and Rodney Baker and partner, James Krueger of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members, extended family and many friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. (CDT) at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Rev. Brian Fong and Johnny Walker officiating. Interment with military honors will follow services at the Trenton Cemetery. Visitation is today from 4-6 p.m., at the church in Stratton.
