Description	:	Harold E. deBuhr, 84, 402 Cory Drive, died at 4:50 pm Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Vista Woods Care Center. He was born Sept 28, 1927, in Rockford to Herman E. and Lillian C. Kock deBuhr. He attended Floyd County country schools for elementary grades while living with his grandparents Otto and Clara Kock. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1945. He attended Floyd County country schools for elementary grades while living with his grandparents Otto and Clara Kock. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S.Army in January 1946 and was discharged in July 1947 as a technical sergeant. Harold enrolled in agricultural engineering in September 1947 at Iowa State University and granduated with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1951. He received a commission in the U.S.Air Force serving in the U.S. and Japan during the Korean War until 1953. Harold began employment with John Deere Ottumwa works in July 1953 as a junior design engineer and spent his entire professional career in Ottumwa. He married Florene V. Erickson in September 1945. Surviving are his wife Florene; a son, Ross(Barb)deBuhr, of Urbandale; a daughter, Jean(Todd)Propp, of Batavia, Ill.; five grandchildren, Justin, Devin and Connor Propp, Brian(Amy)and Sara deBuhr; a great-grandson, Benjamin deBuhr; a half-brother, Dean deBuhr; and two half-sisters, Judy deBuhr-Vanek and Janet deBuhr-Mills. He was preceded in death by his birth parents; a step-father, Charles Brooker; and a step-mother, Thelma deBuhr. Harold was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served several terms as chairman of the board of trustees. He participated in many activities including 4-H, past president of Toastmasters, Boy Scout Leadership, American Society of Agricultural Engineers, Triangle Investment Club, Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce and Ottumwa Country Club. He also served on the governing boards of the Ottumwa Regional Health System for approximately 30 years, as chairman of Regional Ventures, Inc., Ottumwa Regional Health Center and Regional Enterprises, Inc. He received the Ernie Hayes Outstanding Trustee Award from the Iowa Hospital Associations and the Hall of Fame Award from the Ottumwa Regional Health System. At John Deere, he worked in product design, testing and reliability in various roles and at the time of early retirement after 29-and-a-half years of engineering work, he was division engineer in charge of worldwide design programs for Forage Harvesters. He received several patents covering his work and was awarded a Master Design Award by Product Engineering Magazine for his work on a self-propelled Hay Cuber. After initial retirement, he worked as a consultant for the John Deere Zwiebrucken Works of Zwiebrucken, Germany, for approximately 10 years. During this time he provided design leadership for a new large self-propelled forage harvester to be manufactured in Germany. His retirement years were spent in Ottumwa and at a winter home in Mesa, Ariz. His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church; with Rev. Jon Disburg officiating. Inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to hte First United Methodist Church. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
