Description	:	Harold Eugene "Gene" Cooley Jr., 64, Corning, was born June 10, 1930, to Harold E. Cooley Sr. and Ruth Josephine Miller Cooley of rural Mt. Etna. He died at his home in rural Adams County January 24, 1995. He was raised in the Corning area and graduated from Corning High School in 1948. He served in the National Guard from 1948 to 1952 and in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Read More	Harold Eugene "Gene" Cooley Jr., 64, Corning, was born June 10, 1930, to Harold E. Cooley Sr. and Ruth Josephine Miller Cooley of rural Mt. Etna. He died at his home in rural Adams County January 24, 1995. He was raised in the Corning area and graduated from Corning High School in 1948. He served in the National Guard from 1948 to 1952 and in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. After his service he farmed in Adams County and worked for many years as a grain and livestock farmer near Mt. Etna. He was married to Mary Lou Sullivan at Cumberland August 3, 1954. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 3, 1994. Mr. Cooley was active with St. Timothy (Reno) parish life, the Adams County Republican Committee, was a 4-H leader, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 719 at Williamson. He and his wife were members of the Boots-n-Bows Square Dance club and he enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He especially treasured the summer when John Bowen and the summer when Maura Flaherty joined their family. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother and sister. He is survived by his wife; sisters, Emma Newman of St. Paul, Minnesota and Anna Ruth (husband Glenn) Hardisty of Prescott; his mother-in-law, Mary Sullivan of Corning; his children, Marty and wife Beverly Cooley of Washington, Mike and wife Dawn Cooley of Orient, Mary Jo Cooley of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Beth and husband Dan Waddle of Corning, Jane Kibbe of Corning and her special friend, Richard Mack, of Cumberland, and Paul Cooley of rural Massena and his special friend Rhonda Ross of Red Oak; and 11 grandchildren. Services were held January 28 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Reno, with Fathers Daniel Krettek, John Bertogli, and Robert Aubrey officiating. Military rites were by Williamson American Legion Post No. 719. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Cass County, Iowa. Casket bearers were Mike Moore, David Mullen, Ron Schafer, Keith Nelson, Jim Waters, and Rod Fleharty. Honorary bearers were Joe Moore, Jim Lee, Gale Penfold, Ray Miller, Bob Nolte, Jim Fuller, John Cimock, Dale Calkins, Darwin Mullen, Glen Roberts, Bert Miller, Richard Nolte, Dick Anstey, Don Vogel, and Larry Wohlenhaus.
