He was born February 7, 1931 in Concord Townshiip, a son of James Leroy and Gertrude Mae (Blue) King. He was born February 7, 1931 in Concord Townshiip, a son of James Leroy and Gertrude Mae (Blue) King. Gene started farming as a boy and worked for many farmers, retired from McKeever Excavating, and loved walking his dog, Cove. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Roberta (Davis) King, whom he married on August 15, 1953, daughters, Vicki Lynn Earnhart and her husband Mark of Urbana, Deanna Sue Evilsizor and her husband Bruce of Urbana, Laurie Mae Rutan of Columbus, and Christina Ann Coder and her husband Brian of Urbana, sons, Ronald Eugene King and his wife Dody of Urbana, William Leroy King of Urbana, Jerry Lee King and his fiance Lindsey of Lima, and Daniel Joseph King of Urbana, 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, sisters Helen Louise Parks of Marysville, and Ruth Virginia Nolte of Urbana. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Denise Kay Campbell, son Edward Brian King, 1 grandchild, Scot Earnhart, son-in-law Michael "Mick" Rutan, sister, Dorothy Mae Reser, brothers, William, Raymond, Richard, and James King and several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Evilsizor, Billy King, Ben Rutan, Jacob King, Eric Earnhart, Brad Coder and Lucas Campbell. The family will receive friends 1 - 8 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010, and one hour prior to service in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 with Rev. Brian Wonn officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual. Memorial contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Cancer Association of Champaign County, P.O. Box 38125, Urbana, OH 43078.
