Description	:	Harold Eugene Gronewold, age 86, of Lake Norden and formerly of De Smet passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 29th from 5-7 P.M. at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in De Smet with burial to follow in the De Smet Cemetery. Osthus Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Harold was born on March 23, 1929 to Henry J. and Anna (Fichens) Gronewold near Willow Lake, SD. He spent his childhood growing up near Willow Lake and attending the Spirit Lake country school and Willow Lake High School. Harold would later meet and marry Audrey Dykstra on October 14, 1956 in Huron, SD. Together they raised three sons and two daughters. Harold farmed with his father until 1962 and continued working for other farmers until 1969 when he bought his own backhoe with which he went into the excavation business in De Smet and the surrounding communities. From 1973 until 2005 he dug graves in the De Smet Cemetery and other cemeteries in the surrounding area. He and his family were also the caretakers of the De Smet Cemetery during that time period. He is survived by his three sons, Guy, Lyle and Charles Gronewold; his two daughters Debra Nielsen and Nyla Menzel; one brother, Elwood Gronewold; his special friend, Doris Jorgensen; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
