In 1939 Harold joined the Nebraska National Guard and on December 23, 1940 joined the US Army, serving in the 110 Medical Corp attached to the 134th Infantry 35th Division, ETO. He was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945. Harold married Thelma Mihulka on May 21, 1941 in Columbus. He worked at Behlen Manufacturing for 35 years.
