Anderson, age 86 of Lodgepole, will be held at 10:00am Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger. Burial will be in the Hettinger Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers are Melvin Eggeboo, Nick Schafer, Tom Kelly, Larry Hendricks, Josh and Clint Anderson. All friends and neighbors are considered honorary bearers. Harold was born February 18, 1925 in a sod house in Fredlund Township, Perkins Co., South Dakota, the fourth of six children born to Edward and Mary (Van Wyk) Anderson,. He grew up along the South Grand River and attended Fredlund and Sidney Township schools. At age 13, Harold went to work for Lawrence Olson, for whom he worked for 15 years. In 1948, Harold met Dorothy Anne Exman of Oelwein, Iowa. They were married May 6, 1948 in Bison, South Dakota. To this union two sons were born, Gayle and Douglas. In 1953, he moved his family to the Flathead Valley of Montana where he worked on the Nine Pipe Irrigation Project. In 1959, they returned to South Dakota and went into the cattle business in partnership with Lawrence Olson in Perkins County. In 1966, Harold and Dorothy bought the old Cummings Place. He lived there until 1995, a year after selling the ranch. He, then, moved to a home near his brother Howard, where he lived until recently. In the May of this year, he moved to Western Horizon Care Center. He passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2010 at Western Horizon's Care Center in Hettinger. He is survived by sister, Maxine (Marvin) Colburn of Henning, Minnesota; sons, Gayle (Virginia) Anderson of Rawlins, WY., and Doug (Carol) Anderson of Spearfish, SD; grandchildren Dorothy (Corey) Carlson of Aberdeen, SD, Tonya Mace of Spearfish, SD, and William Anderson of Kenmeer, ND; great-grandchildren Kolton and Kaylee Carlson of Aberdeen and C.J. and Hazer Mace of Spearfish; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on March 1, 1971; his parents, sisters Ann and Marg and brothers, Martin and Howard. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.
