He was surrounded by his loving family and friends during his illness with cancer, which ended at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. His funeral Mass will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., in Mason City, with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky officiating. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends during his illness with cancer, which ended at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. His funeral Mass will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., in Mason City, with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:30 pm and a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Harold was born Feb. 29, 1928, to Harold and Elma (Danner) Baldwin on their farm near Burchinal. He attended Swaledale High School, playing basketball and graduating in 1945. "Bean" took over the family farm operation and he continued to work or visit the farm daily, until his health no longer permitted him to continue. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953, during the Korean War. Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Darlene Kelley on May 7, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. To this union, three children were born and seven grandchildren. "Baldy" also worked for Takin Brothers, later named H & W Motor Express, from February 12, 1954 until he retired on April 13, 1989. Harold loved time spent with his family and took them on numerous vacations across the United States. He also enjoyed trips with his wife and two sisters to the casinos. Harold attended most all of the extracurricular activities of his grandchildren in three different school systems. He enjoyed fishing trips with family and friends and bowling in two different league teams with his son, Keith. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Mason City VFW Post #733. Harold is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Mason City; two daughters, Janet Dasch and her husband, Gary, of Mason City and Carol Prescott and her husband, Larry, of Ventura; one son, Keith Baldwin and his wife, Sue, of Rockwell; seven grandchildren, Sarah Dasch, Clint Prescott, Katie Baldwin, Michael Prescott, Christopher Dasch, Megan Baldwin, and Jenna Baldwin; and two sisters, Anna Mae Lugar and Elizabeth Schindele. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Harlan Baldwin, Walt Guard and Francis Guard. Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, (641) 423-2372.
