Harold was born March 11, 1926 in Emma, Missouri to Paul and Emma (Kueker) Karl. He grew up in Emma on the family farm and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 3. 1944 to June 29, 1946 serving in the Ardennes, Rhineland and EAME (Eastern African Middle Eastern) Theaters. Karl, age 86, of Fremont, NE, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont, NE. Harold was born March 11, 1926 in Emma, Missouri to Paul and Emma (Kueker) Karl. He grew up in Emma on the family farm and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 3. 1944 to June 29, 1946 serving in the Ardennes, Rhineland and EAME (Eastern African Middle Eastern) Theaters. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. He then moved to Hooper, NE. He was a jeweler and owned a jewelry store in Hooper for several years. After closing the store, Harold continued to repair watches out of his home for over 50 years. He then worked for Wollmer-Warne Furniture Store & Funeral Home for about 15 years and for Midland Lutheran College in Fremont until the early 1990's in the maintenance department. Harold married Jo Ann Hosch March 4, 1951 in Winslow, NE. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont and a former member of American Legion Post #18 of Hooper and V.F.W. Post #10535 of Winslow and Hooper and the Hooper Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include: wife – Jo Ann; sons – David and wife Karen Karl of Bellevue, NE and Randy and wife Sara Karl of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter – Kathy and husband Brad King of Fremont, NE; sister-in-law, Marguerite Karl of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: parents; sister – Jeanette Haesemeyer and brother Olen Karl. Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, NE. The Revs. Timothy Gierke and Timothy Anderson of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-8 P.M. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont, NE with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #10535 of Winslow and Hooper and American Legion Post #18 of Hooper, NE. Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont, NE is in charge of arrangements. 402-721-4490
