Born November 26, 1916, in Ida Grove, Iowa, Harold James Woolridge was the son of James L. and Margaret (Whalen) Woolridge. Burial was in the Newell Cemetery in Newell, Iowa, with Military honors conducted by McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion. A Masonic service will be held Wednesday, 7 p.m. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, The Reverend Russ L. Burnett officiated. He grew up and received his education in Ida Grove, Iowa, graduating from Ida Grove High School in 1935. He studied commercial refrigeration at the University of Minnesota before working as an ice cream maker in Ames. On June 14, 1941, Harold was united in marriage to Luella Appel at Varina, Iowa. Four children, Ronald, Jane, Jean, and Thomas, were born to this union. Harold served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He returned to Ida Grove in 1945, where he farmed for many years. He served as groundskeeper at the Ida Grove Country Club until retiring in 1982. Harold was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove and served as Treasurer of the Ida County Historical Society. He also was a vital member of McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion, having served seven years as commander. He enjoyed helping at the Skate Palace and fishing. Survivors include four children, Ronald (Judy) Woolridge of Newell; Jane (Leonard) Ternus of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jean (Jack) Heiner of Naperville, IL.; and Thomas Woolridge of Ida Grove; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Mae Lohafer; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Woolridge of Sioux City, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Luella in 1973; his parents; and two brothers, Don and Dick Woolridge.
