Description	:	Harold J. "Jim" Matzen, of Talladega, Ala., formerly of Clinton, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, in Tijuana, Mexico, after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post No. 28. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Homes and Crematory. Harold James Matzen was born March 5, 1942, in Clinton, the son of Harold and Rosetta (Schultz) Matzen. He married Sharon Gertson in Clinton. She preceded him in death. He was a 1960 graduate of Clinton High School and graduated from Illinois State University in Normal in 1967 with a degree in engineering. He served in the United States Army National Guard for many years. He was a construction engineer working for various companies all over the United States and the world. He retired in 2003 from the Corps of Engineers at Anniston, Ala., Army Depot's toxic waste area. During the 1965 Flood in Clinton, he helped maintain the pumping station called Fort Johannsen. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf and aviation. Survivors include one uncle, three aunts, many cousins, and a special friend, Carole Isbell, of Talladega. He was preceded in death by his mother in March 2003 and his father.
