Description	:	Harold Joseph "Red" Cronin, 82, of Decorah, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. Burial was at the St. Benedict Cemetery. Harold was born Oct. 14, 1916, at Waucoma, in Winneshiek County, the son of John A. and Mae (Carolan) Cronin. He attended grade and high school in Waucoma. Following high school, Harold entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. On July 7, 1941, he was united in marriage with Muriel Louise Headington, and they made their home in Decorah. Harold was born Oct. 14, 1916, at Waucoma, in Winneshiek County, the son of John A. and Mae (Carolan) Cronin. He attended grade and high school in Waucoma. Following high school, Harold entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. On July 7, 1941, he was united in marriage with Muriel Louise Headington, and they made their home in Decorah. To their union were born three children, David, Linda and Nancy. Harold held many different jobs during his lifetime. He worked in a local hardware store, delivered soft drinks and beer, managed a soft drink plant and a box company, and worked construction. But he is probably most remembered for operating Cronin's Sinclair service station for many years. Throughout his life, Harold was active in St. Benedict Catholic Church as an usher and in the Knights of Columbus, in the Odd Fellows and in the Elks. He lived all but one year of his life in Winneshiek County. Survivors include three children, David and Jan Cronin of Elm Grove, Wis., Linda and Jerry Linderbaum of Solon, and Nancy Richardson of Ankeny; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Henry of Decorah; and two brothers, Myles Cronin of West Des Moines and John Cronin of Decorah. Harold Cronin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel, who died Jan. 20, 1997, and one brother, Phillip. Source: Decorah Public Opinion, Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999.
