He was a retired Air Force master sergeant. He was born Aug 22, 1918, in Kokomo, a son of John E. and Hazel M. (Smith) Crume, who preceded him in death, Oct. 20, 1946, he married Beverly J. He was born Aug 22, 1918, in Kokomo, a son of John E. and Hazel M. (Smith) Crume, who preceded him in death, Oct. 20, 1946, he married Beverly J. Cook, who survives. He retired from the Air Force in 1960 as a master segeant after 21 years service. He then was a truck driver for Brada Miller Trucking, retiring in 1981 after 20 years service. He was a birthright member of First friends Meeting and was a retired member of the Teamsters Union Local 543 in Lafayette. He was active in the China-Burma-India Veterans Association. Also surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy Jo Crume of Kokomo and Sandra C. and Martin R. Smith Jr. of Hope Mills, N.C.; a granddaughter and her husband, Aundrea S. and Jeremy J. Margita of Fort Myers, Fla.; a grandson, Martin R. Smith III of Hope Mills; a great-grandson, Brian J. Margita of Fort Myers; a brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Beverly Jeanne Crume of Kokomo; sister, Janan Wall of Battle Creek, Mich;, his mother-in-law, Madge E. Brenton of Kokomo; four nephews; and four nieces. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuaries France Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. The Rev. Nick Block will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors provided by Wright-Patterson Air Force base, Dayton, Ohio. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
