Read More	Lifetime Hotchkiss resident, Harold Lee Martin, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 89. Harold Lee Martin was born to Thomas Merral and Dora Estelle (Barr) Martin on June 7, 1925 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Hotchkiss, and graduated from Hotchkiss High School with the class of 1943. He furthered his education at Colorado A & M College. Harold honorably served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on May 28, 1946. On October 30, 1949, Harold married Jacqueline "Karen" Gellatly in Marshall, Missouri. The couple raised their two children in Hotchkiss and had the honor of celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary. Harold, a retired meat cutter, enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling, and coaching the Old Timers Association youth baseball team. Harold also enjoyed attending the Hotchkiss basketball games until two years ago when his health declined. Harold was a member of several organizations, including: B.P.O.E. # 1807, Lions Club, V.F.W., Hotchkiss Jaycees, and the Memorial Hall Board for 25 years, serving several of those years as president. Harold is survived by his wife, Karen Martin, of Hotchkiss; one son, Thomas Lee Martin, of Grand Junction; and one daughter, Susan Rae Schlott and husband, Martin, of Lamar, CO; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Harold's memory to the Hotchkiss Memorial Hall. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss. A funeral service honoring Harold's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
