He was born May 11, 1923 in Davis County, IA to Orrin and Minnie Huffman Thompson. He was the Salutatorian of the Eldon High School class of 1940, and also graduated from the Iowa Success School. Read More	As published in the Ottumwa Courier - Feb. 10, 2006 BLOOMFIELD — Harold Lee Thompson, 82, of Humboldt, IA, formerly of Davis County, died at 4:33 p.m. February 9, 2006, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born May 11, 1923 in Davis County, IA to Orrin and Minnie Huffman Thompson. He was the Salutatorian of the Eldon High School class of 1940, and also graduated from the Iowa Success School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Burma and India. He had been a resident of Humboldt for the last 55 years. He started with the R.E.C. in Bloomfield in 1948, moving to Humboldt in 1950 where he worked for the Corn Belt Power Cooperative, retiring as budget fiscal director in 1978. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Surviving is a sister, Roberta (Gene) Sigman of Ottumwa; three brothers, Kendel (Genevieve) and Gary (Kay) Thompson both of Ottumwa; LaVerne (Betty) Thompson of Bloomfield; a sister-in-law, Billie Thompson of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Elwood and Dennis Thompson. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Mattox officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Active pallbearers will be Steve Thompson, Mickey Thompson, Larry Thompson, Dan Thompson, Rick Thompson, Brent Thompson and Kenneth Thompson. A memorial has been established to Hospice House, 312 E. Alta Vista, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
