Description	:	Harold Lloyd Knowler, age 81, of Delta, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Mr. Knowler was born Sept. 29, 1926 on the family farm near Rose Hill, Iowa the son of Marvin and Susie Ellen Leathers Knowler. He attended country schools in the Fremont area. Mr. Knowler was born Sept. 29, 1926 on the family farm near Rose Hill, Iowa the son of Marvin and Susie Ellen Leathers Knowler. He attended country schools in the Fremont area. Harold graduated from Fremont High School in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. After returning from the service, Harold began farming. He was united in marriage to LaRue Steele on Nov. 27, 1947 in Lancaster, Mo. They resided in the White Oak community and in 1952 moved to a farm near Delta, where he continued farming until retiring. Harold was involved in many organizations and community roles including Delta Mayor, Delta Ruritans, American Legion, Montezuma Sale Barn Board of Directors, Garrett Cemetery Board, Fremont Funeral Chapel Board and the Keokuk County Fair Board. Providing much enjoyment for Harold was attending auctions and collecting antiques. After retiring Harold enjoyed raising, working, and driving his draft horses in parades. Harold is survived by a son, Calvin (Teddi) Knowler of Sigourney; two daughters, Carol Ann (David) Hardeman of Rose Hill and Cathy Knowler of Delta; three grandchildren, Rebecca Knowler of Oskaloosa, Thad (Julia) Hardeman of Tonalea, Ariz. and Carrie Malin of Iowa City; and two great-grandsons, Samuel and Isaac Hardeman; three sisters, Ione Carl of Oskaloosa, Edith (Ed) Bridges of Oskaloosa, Linda Robertson of Delta; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaRue; three brothers, Floyd, Marvin, and Jack; one sister, Mary Lou Awtry; and a grandson, Mark Knowler. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at Fremont Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James Bringman officiating. Interment will follow at Garrett Cemetery near Delta, with full military honors conducted by Harry L. Anderson American Legion Post #34, VFW Post #2237 and Disabled American Veterans Post #21 of Oskaloosa.
