Description	:	Harold Novotny, 66 of Perre, died Sunday, August 20 at St. Mary's TCU in Pierre. Harold was born on April 7, 1940 at his parent's farm house in Winner, SD to Albert and Josephine Novotny. He attended Riley Elementary School and 2 years of Catholic School in Winner and graduated from Winner High School. On June 27, 1964 Harold was united in marriage to Carol Knox in Winner, SD. Read More	Harold Novotny, 66 of Perre, died Sunday, August 20 at St. Mary's TCU in Pierre. Harold was born on April 7, 1940 at his parent's farm house in Winner, SD to Albert and Josephine Novotny. He attended Riley Elementary School and 2 years of Catholic School in Winner and graduated from Winner High School. On June 27, 1964 Harold was united in marriage to Carol Knox in Winner, SD. To this union one son Brent was born, Harold had a love for the land and prairie. He enjoyed rural life and its beauty. In 1968 he and his family moved to a farm south of Highmore where they farmed. The Agriculture business became more difficult and in 1986 Harold and his family decided it was time to leave the farm and moved to Pierre. Harold took any job he could find from a day to a week or two and worked for many businesses in Pierre and surrounding areas. In 1989 he received the State Employee "Excellence Award" from the late Governor Mickelson for his department's hard work and dedication for the South Dakota Centennial Celebration. In 1993 he accepted employment as a janitor for the State of SD in the Bureau of Administration. He enjoyed doing light mechanics on the vehicles. His goal was to work until the age of 65. Work became difficult but daily left with his lunch box until the end of April 2005 when he retired due to health problems. His dream was that he and Carol could have a long retirement together. However 3 months later more health problems developed. He courageously faced them and accepted it graciously. Harold never lost the ability to come up with his own clever quotes and had a wonderful sense of humor. His love and respect for the land and nature always brought conversations of farming and cattle. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden as long as he was able to. It made his day to sit on the deck, soak up the sun, report the weather and enjoy nature. Harold dearly loved his family and had a very special bond with his "Little Buddy" Christopher. Harold touched our lives and hearts and we will always miss him. However we are so grateful to have shared and heard of his walk to eternal life. He is survived by his wife Carol; one son Brent and special friend Maria and grandson Chris all of Pierre; 9 brothers and sisters; Martha (Darrell) Dougherty of Winner, Anne (Bill) Mulso of Winner, Mary (Russ) Graesser of Gregory, Alberta Mohler of San Mateo, CA, Dorothy Wilson of Burke, Don (Delores) Novotny of Winner, Katherine (Lon) Hollenbeck of Carter, OK, Connie (Duane) Davis of Grove, OK, and Albert Jr. (Judy) Novotny of Winner and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Leo and two infant siblings. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 26 at Maryhouse Chapel in Pierre with burial Saturday at IOOF Cemetery in Gregory. Arrangements by Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
