Aug. 3, 1921-May 26, 2008 Harold Owen Hadaway, 86, of Ames, died Monday, May 26, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, with the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Gilbert. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Harold Hadaway was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Story City, the son of Clarence and Anna (Keller) Hadaway. He was a 1940 graduate of Story City High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in the Pacific Theater on the island of New Caledonia. He was employed by Herman Cole Bridge Builders from 1945 to 1951. He married Rose Marie Welsh May 18, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone. He served a second tour of Army duty during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. He had been employed by Frank Lint Home Builders in Ankeny for 25 years. In addition to construction, he farmed in Harrison Township, Boone County, for 30 years. After retirement from construction in 1978, he began spending winter months in Arizona with his wife, Rose. He enjoyed walleye fishing in northern Minnesota, golfing, bowling and playing cards, especially Pitch. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Moose Lodge in Boone, American Legion Post 37, and the VFW. He is survived by two sons, Michael Hadaway, of Boone, and his children, Rachel and Jonathan, and William (Lisa) Hadaway, of Sheldahl, and their sons, Lucas and Jacob; one daughter, Patricia (Jim) Dimmick, of Boulder, Colo.; two brothers, Willard (Helen) Hadaway, of Boone, and Don (Opal) Hadaway, of rural Randall; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Wallace) Hadaway, of Boone, and Mary (Roland) Hadaway, of Morris, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; two brothers, Wallace and Roland; brother-in-law, Jack Welsh; son-in-law, Dean Lowe; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Houge Hadaway. Memorials may be directed to St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
