HAROLD PETERSON was born on August 11, 1922 to Peter and Bertha (Mestad) Peterson at their homestead in Darling Springs Township, rural Adams County, ND. He was baptized on August 23, 1925 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on December 11, 1938 at Wolf Butte Lutheran Church. Harold attended school in Darling Springs Township and later graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1940. Harold was a farmer for all of his life. He truly loved the hard work. Harold was an avid bowler, enjoyed baseball and most sports. He loved throwing horseshoes and competed in many tournaments, including the World Horseshoe Tournament in 1989, where he placed second overall! Harold was the favorite uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. He was loved by all who knew him. Harold's brother, Orlando and his wife Joyce, along with their three children moved onto the farm with Harold in 1956. Harold became somewhat of a 2nd dad. Orlando and Harold farmed together until the 1990s. After Orlando passed away, Joyce continued to live on the farm and she and Harold took care of the operation and each other. Harold cared for others before himself and truly had a big heart. Harold died where he would have wanted to, on the farm. If he had the choice, he wouldn't have wanted the accident to happen to anyone else he cared about. He would have wanted it to happen to him. Grateful for having shared in his life are his sister, Lucille Wilhelmson, Spring Grove, MN, sister-in-law, Joyce Peterson, Hettinger, ND and 28 special nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Mildred, Bernice, Ethel, Palma and Inga, four brothers, Walter, Raymond, Orlando and Floyd and one niece, Ginger Peterson. Service of Remembrance will be Friday, June 15th at the Hettinger Lutheran Church. Rev. Kathleen Dettmann and the Rev. Ron Nelson will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery. Arrangements by Evanson Jensen Funeral Home.
