Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Henry D. Corbin and Maggie Seay Corbin. Read More	Obituary from the Franklin Press dated June 20, 2014 Harold Pinkney Corbin, 82, of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Henry D. Corbin and Maggie Seay Corbin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joann Hopkins Corbin and brothers and sisters, Margaret Pendergrass, Linwood Osborne, H.D. Corbin, Clarence Corbin, Clyde Corbin and two infant siblings. Harold served his country for four years in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was passionately involved in politics all of his adult life and was able to work with both political parties for the betterment of the fellowman, the county, the district and the state of NC. He served his state as a member of the Council of Government, a member of the Parks & Parkway Commission and a member of the State Health Coordinating Council. The Governor of NC awarded him with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine; the highest honor that can be bestowed on a North Carolina citizen. In May of 2014, Harold was honored by Congressman Mark Meadows when Mark read a proclamation on the floor of the United States House of Representatives honoring Harold for his lifetime of achievements. The proclamation read by congressman Meadows, is now part of the permanent Congressional Record stored in the Library of Congress. Harold served his district as Chairman of the Southwestern Planning Commission, Dept. on Aging Board, and chaired a committee that raised 19 ½ million dollars to purchase and preserve 4,600 acres of the Needmore property. The property is now owned and managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. Also, he served on the Smoky Mountain Host board of directors. He served his county with four years as chairman of the Macon County Board of Commissioners; served on the Macon County Health Board, Macon County Recreation Park Commission Economic Development Board, Tourist Development Board, Macon Program for Progress Board, Macon Board of Elections, Macon County Airport Authority, Little Tennessee Watershed Association, Macon County Folk Heritage Commission and Folk Festival Commission. He was President of Macon County’s Little League Baseball and Football. He was active in the first community theatre group, “The Nantahala Players”. Harold attended Holly Springs Baptist Church since birth and served as a faithful member since the age of 12. He was a member of the Historic Committee, served as church parliamentarian, served on the Transitional Team Committee and enjoyed being a greeter on Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife, Dean Breedlove Corbin; children, Kevin Corbin and wife Beth, Kelly Corbin and wife Dayna both of Franklin, Rachel Lynn Sanders and husband Vance of Juneau, AK and Lisa Parker and husband Dale of Selma, NC; sister, Sarah Penland and husband Pete of Franklin; grandchildren, Joey Corbin and wife Candice, Kristi Corbin, Brooke Corbin, Second Lt. Matthew Corbin and wife Charissa, Maggie Corbin, Logan Sanders, Jacob Sanders, Molly Sanders, Christopher Wilmoth and PVT 1st Class Drew Wilmoth; great granddaughter, Paysleigh Reid Corbin and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21st at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Dr. Charles Harris, Rev. Brandon Breedlove and Rev. Mike Corbin will officiate. Burial will be in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 11-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Barry Corbin, Ron Corbin, Mike Penland, Steve Penland, Tom Pendergrass and Phil Pendergrass. Memorial donations can be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 366 Holly Springs Church Road, Franklin, NC 28734. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
