Read More	Harold Richard Harms was born to his loving parents Diedrich William "Dick" and Hilda Patra (Larsen) Harms on Saturday July 28, 1917 at Fremont, Dodge County Nebraska. My research found no information on Harold's childhood or schooling. Harold served in the Army Air Force and spent three years of duty overseas. Harold was united in marriage to Ella Wiegand on Saturday February 2, 1946 at the Bethany Lutheran at Omaha, Douglas County with the Rev. Burrough officiating the marriage ceremony, the couple were blessed over the years of marriage with three daughters. Harold's wife Ella was a 1934 graduate of Scribner high, she was employed with the Safeway Stores of Omaha for several years. Harold and Ella shortly after their marriage lived on a farm southwest of Scribner, Dodge County for six years, they then moved to a farm ten miles south of Scribner, on this farm is where Harold resided until his death. This farm house is where they raised their family with GPS satellite coordinates of the house being 41.545696, -96.685241. The farm place was on the south side of the road being about three quarters of a mile west of the corner of 13 and County Rd N Blvd in Cotterell Township, Dodge County. The address at that time was Route 1 Ames, now it shows as North Bend, both of these towns are in Dodge County. Harold and Ella enjoyed growing a big farm garden. Harold always boasted he made the hottest horseradish. Every summer in the early sixties Harold and I would plow eighty acres on the Platte River bottom to the south of his Uncle Martin's Fremont area farm for winter wheat planting. Harold would run his Farmall Super M and I would run Uncle Martin's John Deere 60, both of us pulling three bottom plows. I help Harold with many farm chores, from hay baling, shelling corn, cutting the weeds out of the beans and corn fields. Harold's home farm south eighty had a lot of cockleburs. Harold enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting. Harold drove a fifty six Chevy two door sedan that was two tone black and yellow in color. Harold was a member of the VFW Post of West Point, the Scribner American Legion Post of Scribner, St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Scribner, and later became a member of the First Lutheran Church of Fremont. Harold and Ella visited my family in Wisconsin only a month before his accident. Harold was filling some wash out back in the very hilly area of the south eighty using his Super M loader when his tractor tipped over. The tractor steering wheel injured his chest area. Once they found Harold he was transported to the Fremont Memorial Hospital. Harold seemed to be recovering well, he thought he would be going home soon. On Monday September 8, 1975 around 8p a blood clot went to his heart. Sadly Harold passed that evening at the age of 58 years, 1 month, 11 days which does not include his last day, he lived a total of 21,226 days. Harold's funeral service was held on Thursday September 11, 1975 at the First Lutheran Church at 2p with Rev. Robert Hansen officiating. Lattin-Dugan-Chambers was in charge of his arrangements. Harold was interred in section f, lot 131, grave 2 at the Memorial Cemetery of Fremont. Harold's marker inscription was "Tec 5 US Army World War II". Harold's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Harold by a family friend Loren R.
