The death of Harold Russell Barkhouse, veteran of the Great War, occurred at his home at Oak Hill, on Wednesday morning at the age of 45 years. He had been ill for the past six weeks. Mr. Barkhouse, who served in the 25th. and 85th. Highland Battalions, was born at Newburne, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Barkhouse. Returning to Canada with his bride, the former Rose H. Friend, of Birmingham, England, following the armistice, he resided at his home in Newburne until about two years ago when he moved to Oak Hill. Besides his widow and parents, he is survived by seven brothers, Noble at Mahone Bay; Enos at New Cornwall; Ira at Shelburne; Stewart, Moody, Donald, and Irvin at Newburne; and a sister, Alberta (Mrs. John Crouse), at Wilmot. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from Holy Trinity Anglican Church of which he was a member (having received the solemn rite of confirmation only a short time previous to his illness) where the body lay in state from 10 o'clock until the hour of the service. His fellow comrades of the Great War, members of the Canadian Legion, were present in a body and the service, which was conducted by Lieut.-Colonel, the Rev. G.W. Bullock, was attended with full military honours. Interment was in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
