Description	:	H. Sam Pflugrath, 85, a life resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Wednesday morning, November 9, 2005, at his home in Wenatchee. He was born on July 16, 1920, to Adam and Sophia (Dammel) Pflugrath at Dryden and in 1927, the family moved to the Peshastin North Road, where Adam had purchased a fruit orchard. Sam Pflugrath, 85, a life resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Wednesday morning, November 9, 2005, at his home in Wenatchee. He was born on July 16, 1920, to Adam and Sophia (Dammel) Pflugrath at Dryden and in 1927, the family moved to the Peshastin North Road, where Adam had purchased a fruit orchard. Sam grew up and helped with the orchard and received his education, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1939. While in high school he participated in sports and loved basketball. He then attended Wenatchee Valley College for one year, where he also played basketball. Sam then moved to Seattle, where he was employed at Todd Shipyard. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II and following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Leavenworth. On August 11, 1946, he married Bernice Reiman at Dryden. They made their home on the Peshastin North Road where he owned and operated a fruit orchard until his retirement in 1984. On June 23, 1987, he married Mary Ellen Suitor Dahlgreen at Leavenworth and they made their home on the East Leavenworth Road, until moving to Wenatchee in 2000. While growing up together with his friends and brothers, they loved hiking into the high lakes, He was an avid bridge player and always enjoyed friends and family. He was a great supporter of high school sports programs and loved watching baseball and football games on T.V. Sam was a member of the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church, Peshastin American Legion #85, Forty and Eight, Chumstick Grange #819, and a past member of the Valley Toppers and Applelanders Square Dance Clubs. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen of Wenatchee; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Morse of Kingston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Jill Pflugrath of Carnation and Lauren and Judy Pflugrath of Seattle; step-daughter, Marykay Dahlgreen of Corvallis, Oregon; and a step-son and his wife, Matt and Lisa Dahlgreen of Wenatchee; 7 grandchildren; two brothers, Karl Pflugrath of Leavenworth and Calvin Pflugrath of Sacramento, California; one sister, Eleanora Allen of Spokane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice in 1984; his parents; two brothers, Al and Bud Pflugrath; and 5 sisters, Ida Fry, Christine Stage, Sophia Morehouse, Magdalene Cloke and Martha Healy. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of H. Sam Pflugrath, will be conducted at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, November 15, 2005, in the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church, 418 Evans St., Leavenworth, with Pastor Roger Hudson, officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial in Sam's name to the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church Handicap Access Fund. Visitation will be Monday between 1 and 7 p.m. at the Ward's Funeral Chapel. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
