Description	:	WESTPORT -- Harold S. Wood, 87, the retired principal of Westport High School and a former selectman, died at his Main Road home Sunday, April 6, 1997, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine M. (Cairns) Wood and a lifelong resident of Westport. He was the son of the late Charles R. and Annie L. (Cook) Wood. Read More	WESTPORT -- Harold S. Wood, 87, the retired principal of Westport High School and a former selectman, died at his Main Road home Sunday, April 6, 1997, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine M. (Cairns) Wood and a lifelong resident of Westport. He was the son of the late Charles R. and Annie L. (Cook) Wood. Mr. Wood spent his entire career as an educator in local schools, starting as a high school teacher in 1936. He was named vice-principal in 1947 and became principal in 1951, a post he held until his retirement in 1972. He also served as acting superintendent in Westport. Mr. Wood was a graduate of Massachusetts State College of Amherst. In 1973, he was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen. He later served one term on the Housing Authority and as a member of the Youth Activities Committee. Mr. Wood was a charter member of the Lions Club of Westport. In 1976, the School Committee voted to name the high school auditorium after Mr. Wood. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Richard J. Wood of Riverside, RI; two daughters, Patricia M. Cullen of Wareham and Dr. Carolyn L. Wood of Barrington, RI; a sister, Ruth Tripp of Westport; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, MA.
