He was born in Havelock, Neb.,on January 12, 1915. His parents were Frank Mitchell Johnson and Mary Elaine (West) Johnson. Johnson, 78, of Elmwood, died Tues., Dec. 28, 1993 at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse. He was born in Havelock, Neb.,on January 12, 1915. His parents were Frank Mitchell Johnson and Mary Elaine (West) Johnson. Harold was working in Colorado when World War II broke out and he was the second man to enlist in the Army Air Corp in Denver area. His years of service were 12-9-41 to 6-9-48. His time was spent in desert training until the war was over in North Africa, at which time he transferred into the Motor Pool and was sent to England, stationed at Saltby. He met Lily Mason on one of his many trips to Leicester, and after about a year they were married on June 9, 1945. After a year of marriage, they had a son, Paul, on January 26, 1946. He was assigned to the occupation Army stationed in Bremen, Germany, until December 26, 1947, at which time he and his family returned to the United States to be discharged on June 9, 1948 at Elgin Air Force Base, Florida. In his life time, he served on the School Board of District 63 schools and as a board member of Wilson Creek Watershed District. He was a member of American Legion Post 247. Harold is survived by his wife, Lily; three sons, Paul, Darryl and wife, Nancy, and Wayne and wife, Bev, all of Elmwood; nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one sister, Virginia Nouchi of San Antonio, Texas. Services were held Fri., Dec. 31, 1993, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Elmwood. Words of comfort were delivered by Rev. Milan Coleman, organist was Joan Williams, vocalist was Janet Sorenson. Songs were Amazing Grace and The Lord is My Shepherd. Honorary pallbears were James Jicha and Richard Pratt. Pallbearers were Mick Bornemeier, Edgar Mueller, Merlin Peterson, Ralph Brockhoff, Willard Hall and Norman Brockhoff. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Weeping Water.
